Prolific on the nu-jazz and broken beat scene, drummer for Mark de Clive-Lowe. Recorded with broken beat pioneers 4 Hero “Play With the Changes” album and their “Extensions” album. Other albums in the genre include Dutch nu-jazz Flowriders “R.U.E.D.Y.” album (Mr.Bongo Records), Mark de Clive-Lowe’s “Journey to the Light” (Freedom School / Japan), Mark de Clive-Lowe’s improvised Freesoul Sessions alongside Bembe Segue and Jason Yarde – various EP’s and the Freesoul Volume One LP (Antipodean). 1. Top three (or more) tips for new and emerging talent to stay afloat and last long term.
If the music you make really means something to you… chances are it will to somebody else.
Don’t trust anyone with your business until they have earned that trust.
Ego’s are impossible to work with.
2. What has been one of the toughest music related experiences you’ve faced?
Having a whole 3 months tour cancelled the week before.
3. How did you get through or deal with it?
It worked out in the end – the tour went ahead a few months later so looking back on it – it was one of those things. At the time though it was esteem destroying. Not to mention the hit my wallet took.
4. What did you learn?
I learned that other people have a lot of control over your life in this business. Try and make sure it’s the right people.
